Wisdom of The Land International School for Jain Studies
Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia (ISJS) &
Mahidol University, Thailand Bangkok Jain Community
Buddhism and Jainism have a lot in common as they are two branches of the same Sramana
tradition of Indian philosophy and religion and both have much to share and learn from each
other. We complement and supplement each other and hence it is imperative that we start this
study and dialog to further strengthen the cultural and educational ties between Thailand and India.
Since year 2005, International Summer School of Jain Studies (ISSJS) has been inviting scholars
from the field of Religion and Philosophy from various countries including Thailand to study
Jain Philosophy in English language in India during the months of June and July each year. Six Thai
scholars have already studied intensive summer course at ISSJS during past 4 years (2006-2009).
To make this summer course of Jain philosophy available to more Thai teachers, professors and post
graduate scholars in Thailand, we are planning to invite few learned Jain professors from India for 3
weeks duration to Thailand during Thai summer holidays to teach Jain Philosophy (in English
language) at Mahidol University, Salaya Campus, Nakhon Pathom.
Applications are invited for the next year’s (ISSJS 2010) summer course in Bangkok.

Qualifications Required:
• English language skills (speaking, reading and writing) are essential.
• This program is open only to faculty and graduate/undergraduate students in the related
areas of study and engaged in teaching or research, or pursuing advanced studies, at any
accredited university or college worldwide.
• Prior and/or on-going studies in religion, philosophy and culture at post-graduate and/or at
teaching level is essential with strong interest in promoting comparative studies
Course details:
• Course duration: 3 weeks, from Monday, 19th April to Saturday, 8th May 2010.
• Timing: 6 days per week, Monday to Saturday, 8.30 am to 13.00 pm.
• 3 lectures of 1 hour 15 min. duration,15 min break in between lectures.
• Class size: Up to 20 students.
• Fee: This course is offered Free of cost but student shall manage for his/her
accommodation, transportation)
• Tea/coffee, water & light snacks will be provided by Mahidol University.
• Submission Deadline: Your Essay and application form shall be submitted to us on or before
• 15th March 2010.
Note:
Depending on the response from interested candidates, we may arrange 3-4 days’ pilgrimage tour to
Jain (& may be Buddhist) religious places for which the candidates will have to pay a separate fee
(to be advised later) to cover for his/her air travel, Indian tourist visa fees, lodging, boarding, and
transportation cost etc. within India.
